Overview

Celebrating 20 Years of Manship Theatre Performances

On display until April 30th, 2025

Manship Theatre and the Shaw Center for the Arts opened its doors on Saturday, March 5, 2005 following "one of the most ambitious projects in downtown Baton Rouge's history."  (Calder, The Advocate, 2005)

The Shaw building traces its roots back to the late 1990s when the block of Convention and Lafayette streets were once the site of an old Auto Hotel.

Through a partnership with the State, LSU, BRAF, the City, and private donors, the building was transformed to become an anchor for the ongoing development of downtown Baton Rouge as an arts district.

Manship Theatre, located on the first floor of the Shaw Building, features an intimate 325-seat venue, a black box and a studio theatre, and 2 Gallery spaces which support year-round performing arts programming and local and regional art exhibits.
