Artist Reception: Come join us Thursday, April 24th from 5:30PM - 7:30PM in the Jones Walker Foyer
About the Artist:
I was fortunate to have a mother who taught me an appreciation for art in my tweens. That seed she planted lay dormant for a long time. Then I put a chainsaw to a fallen Beech tree. What revealed itself was some of the most dramatic wood grain I had ever seen. I was mesmerized. This began my journey into finding fallen and sunken logs in persuit of the hidden gems within.
Artist Statement:
I am constantly collecting fallen and sunken logs in search of what Mother Nature has taken centuries to create. To compliment the wood is a matrix of resin that is somewhat manipulated to create a more organic presentation. The images I create are simply abstract interpretations from scenes in nature.
Artist Quote:
"I call my workshop Sloveniana. This semi-organized chaos is where the sawdust flies. Sloveniana is a play on words combining Louisiana and my mother's homeland, Slovenia."
Please note: The Jones Walker Foyer is a public space.
