Deep in the marshes of Louisiana, roots are being pulled from the ground and land is falling away. Who's the culprit? Heavy-set semi-aquatic rodent that brought here a hundred years ago: Nutria Rats.
Native to South America, the webbed footed, five-fingered pest have been wreaking havoc and populating fast. Now, there are so many of them Louisiana's agencies are making efforts to keep their population down. They've tried everything from Nutria consumption to mass killing efforts. Nothing has fully worked as intended.
Rise of the Swamp Rats is an effort by Oscar Tickle and his team to dispel rumors of the rodent's origins. Join them on their journey through the swamps and marshes of southeast Louisiana in search of wild Nutria, and learn the stories of the people that live with them along the way.
This event will be catered by Korean restaurant Okki Tokki. There will also be Nutria-themed and environmentally-focused art for sale by Claudine Diamond.
