ABOUT THE OFRENDA: BRING PHOTOGRAPHS OF YOUR LOST LOVED ONES

An ofrenda is a commemorative altar created during Día de los Muertos to honor and remember family members, friends, and others who have passed away. It may include photographs, candles, marigolds flowers, food, personal belongings, and other meaningful items connected to the person being remembered.

Guests are invited to bring photographs because Día de los Muertos is centered on remembering and celebrating the lives of those who have died, rather than focusing solely on grief. In many traditions, photographs help represent the loved ones being honored and serve as a personal invitation to remember their presence, stories, and impact. By adding a photograph to the ofrenda, guests can honor someone they have lost while also sharing in a collective celebration of remembrance, family, culture, and community.

The ofrenda created by the Latin American Student Organization provides a meaningful space for the university community to come together through music, cultural tradition, and remembrance during the Mariachi Día de los Muertos performance.
